
Kness, Pirates Finish Second at FAU Winter Warm-Up

BOCA RATON, FLA. - Junior Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.) shot an even-par, 72, in Tuesday's final round to finish second among 81 individual golfers and lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to a second-place team finish at the 2020 FAU Winter Warm-Up.

Kness birdied two of the final four holes to finish even par for the round. She ended the first tournament of the spring just one stroke behind the individual champion, Yale's Ami Gianchandani. For the three-round event, Kness shot a 1-under-par, 73-70-72-215. It is her third career sub-par tournament and her fifth top-5 finish.

Seton Hall, the team leader through two rounds, was caught on the final day by Arkansas State. The Pirates shot a respectable 9-over-par, 297, on Tuesday, but the Red Wolves carded a strong 4-under-par, 284. As a result, the Pirates finished second, three strokes behind Arkansas State, with a 17-over-par, 291-293-297-881.

Two other BIG EAST schools were a part of the competitive field as well. Xavier finished in sixth place, 17 strokes behind The Hall, while Butler placed 14th, a distant 77 strokes behind the Pirates.

Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain) finished her tournament with a 3-over-par, 75, on Tuesday, to notch her second career top-5 finish at Seton Hall. For the tournament, the senior had a 3-over-par, 73-71-75-219.

Senior Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) closed out her tournament with a 4-over-par, 76, in round three. She ended up in a tie for 19th place with a 9-over-par, 70-79-76-225, for the tournament.

Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) turned in her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, using a pair of birdies to fuel a 2-over-par, 74. For the three-round event, the senior tied for 35th place with a 13-over-par, 80-75-74-229.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, senior Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) finished her first event of the spring with a 15-over-par, 75-77-79-231.

In addition to Seton Hall and host Florida Atlantic, the field was comprised of 12 other teams including: Arkansas State, Charleston Southern, Columbia, Dartmouth, Eastern Kentucky, McNeese State, Princeton, Quinnipiac, Western Carolina and Yale. BIG EAST foes Butler and Xavier are also a part of a talented field.
