Aguilar, Bae Lead Pirates to Finish at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Marta Aguilar (Casares Malaga, Spain) and freshman Laney Bae (Huntington Beach, Calif.) each shot a 6-over-par, 77, in round two to lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to an 11^th place finish at the storm-shortened Princeton Invitational on Saturday.

The tournament was originally scheduled for two rounds on Saturday and a final round on Sunday, but with a ferocious nor'easter bearing down on the East Coast this weekend, the field decided to play as many of the two rounds as possible on Friday and finish any remaining holes Saturday morning.

Aguilar was one stroke better in round two, than round one, using a birdie and 11 pars to fuel her 77. For the tournament, she was the top Seton Hall finisher, tying for 27^th overall with a 13-over-par, 78-77-155.

Bae had two birdies and 11 pars in round two. She posted the best finish in her young career, tying for 38^th place with a 15-over-par, 80-77-157.

Rutgers' Emily James and Pennsylvania's Juliet Oh shared the individual title at 2-under-par for the tournament.

As a team, the Pirates were six strokes better in round two, finishing with a 29-over-par, 313. For the tournament, The Hall placed 11^th with a 64-over-par, 319-313-632. Host Princeton won the team title at 2-over-par. A pair of BIG EAST competitors are also in the field at Springdale. St. John's finished at 45-over-par, while Georgetown was 52-over-par.

Senior Kasumi Tran (Swansea, Wales) shot a 9-over-par, 80, in round two. For the tournament, she shot a consistent 18-over-par with an 80-80-160.

Freshman Gia Vitelli (Cranbury, N.J.) turned in the best single round of her young career, using two birdies to fuel an 8-over-par, 79, in round two. For the tournament, she was 21-over-par with an 84-79-163.

Sophomore Isabella Stewart (Wicklow, Ireland) shot a 14-over-par, 85, in round two. For the tournament, she finished at 24-over-par with an 80-85-165.

Senior Renee Rane (New Delhi, India) finished just one stroke behind Stewart for the event. She too had a 14-over-par, 85, in round two, and ended the tournament with a 25-over-par, 81-85-166.

THE COURSE
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members. With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.

THE FIELD
In addition to Seton Hall and host Princeton, the field was comprised of 11 other teams including: Albany, Boston University, Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, Pennsylvania Rutgers-Newark and Yale. Also joining the field are two BIG EAST opponents: Georgetown and St. John's.

THE FORMAT
Teams played six golfers and counted the four lowest scores per round.

THE RESULTS
The Pirates will return to tournament action for three rounds of golf at the UAlbany Invitational at Normanside Country Club in Delmar, N.Y., Oct. 11-12.
