Aguilar, Pirates Win Titles of Charge at Quail Valley

LITTLESTOWN, PA. – Junior Marta Aguilar (Casares Malaga, Spain) shot a 1-over-par, 73, on Tuesday to win the individual title of the Charge at Quail Valley and lead Seton Hall women's golf team to its first team victory in the head coach Jackie Mullens era.
Aguilar was brilliant again on Tuesday, using two birdies and 13 pars to fuel a 1-over-par, 73. For the tournament, she carded a 1-over-par, 72-72-73-217, to claim the individual title by five strokes over Lehigh's Lilly Riegger, who placed second.
Aguilar's victory is the fifth of her remarkable career, which extends her own program record. Only two others in Seton Hall history, Mia Kness and Erin McClure, have won multiple tournament titles.
As a team, Seton Hall surprisingly had its worst round of the tournament on Tuesday, but was able to hold on for the team victory. The Hall shot a 12-over-par, 300, in round three, which was only fourth-best in the field. Entering today's final round, The Hall had a five-stroke lead on St. John's, but the Red Storm were 24-over-par today and faded quickly.
For the tournament, Seton Hall finished at 25-over-par with a 297-292-300-889, two strokes ahead of second-place Lehigh. St. John's placed fourth at 17 strokes behind the Pirates.
It's Seton Hall's first team championship since winning the UAlbany Invitational on Oct. 6, 2024 and its 19th title overall all-time.
Sophomore Isabella Stewart (Wicklow, Ireland) turned in her first-ever top-5 finish, by tying for third place in the field of 53 individual golfers. On Tuesday, she had a birdie and 14 pars to fuel a 2-over-par, 74. For the tournament, she was just 7-over-par with a 73-76-74-223.
Senior Renee Rane (New Delhi, India) shot a 4-over-par, 76, on Tuesday. For the event, she tied for sixth place with an 8-over-par, 76-72-76-224. It's her second career top-10 finish and tied for her third-lowest tournament score against par in her four years at Seton Hall.
Finishing only one stroke behind her classmate, senior Kasumi Tran (Swansea, Wales) also registered a top-10 finish with a 9-over-par, 225. Tran closed out the tournament with a 5-over-par, 77, in round three, and tied for ninth overall with a 9-over-par, 76-72-77-225. It's her first career top-10 finish, and like Rane, tied for her third-lowest tournament score against par.
Rounding out the Seton Hall lineup, Gia Vitelli (Cranbury, N.J.) turned in her best round of her first collegiate event, a 7-over-par, 79. She finishes her tournament with a 26-over-par, 82-81-79-242
Competing as an individual, freshman Laney Bae (Huntington Beach, Calif.) turned in her second-straight solid round, using three birdies to fuel a 4-over-par, 76, on Tuesday. She finished her tournament with a 20-over-par, 85-76-76-236.

THE COURSE
Since Opening in 1993, Quail Valley has been a favorite choice for locals and visiting golfers, alike. The Course was purchased by Scott and Colyn Keller, grandsons of the late Yankee great, Charlie Keller. Quail Valley offers an outstanding challenge with two distinctly different nines. The front plays through a mature stand of trees while the back is more open with water lurking on seven of the nine holes. Five sets of tees guarantee golfers of all abilities the opportunity to take advantage of demanding risk/reward par 5's, a beautiful signature par 3, and the courses trademark fast greens.
Golfers will find all the holes at Quail Valley to be enjoyable and imaginative, the stakes are raised the highest at No. 13, the layouts signature par 3 island green. The tee shot provides a psychological challenge for golfers of all abilities. Playing roughly 150 yards, the green is actually a lot larger than it appears from the tee box. Bunkers to the left and right will collect shots hit a little off line and there is more room up front than you might think. Still, any shot that lands on the island green is reason for celebration. Quail Valley does a great job of mixing in both short and long holes, your final score will depend a lot on how well you position yourself on the tee. Most of the greens are small and well bunkered, thus demanding pinpoint approach shots.
THE FIELD
In addition to Seton Hall and hosts Sacred Heart and Mount St. Mary's, the small field was comprised of six other schools including Fairfield, Iona, Lehigh, UMES and St. Bonaventure. Fellow BIG EAST competitor, St. John's, is also in the field.
THE FORMAT
Teams played five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.
