The only thing better than holiday basketball is winning holiday basketball.
Winning won't be easy this week as the Pirates face one of the greatest fields they've ever seen in a holiday tournament. The Hall is one of four ranked teams in the 2019 Battle 4 Atlantis, and three of the four ranked teams are on one half of the bracket as the No. 13 Pirates take on the No. 11 Oregon Ducks with No. 8 Gonzaga looming as a potential second-day opponent.Â
But this is what good teams do. They challenge themselves. Although the first major challenge ended in a loss, the Pirates played one possession basketball with No. 3 Michigan State. Now on a neutral court with some traveling Pirates fans in attendance, The Hall has a chance to go toe-to-toe with a strong Oregon team and make a great impression on the nation...well, for those who can stay up for a 9:30 p.m., Eastern tip anyway.
By the way - the 1988-89 Pirates defeated Utah, Kentucky and Kansas to win the Great Alaska Shootout, so we know it can be done.
You can catch Wednesday's game on ESPN2 with Kevin Brown and Chris Spatola on the call. The dynamic duo of Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin will have the island-style call of the game on the radio, emanating from AM970 The Answer, simulcast on Sirius 84, XM 84 and the Pirate Sports Network.
Three Things to Know About Wednesday's Battle 4 Atlantis Quarterfinal vs. Oregon
 1. Try to Exploit a Mismatch
Seton Hall has a size advantage over Oregon, and the Ducks are currently allowing an average of 13.8 offensive rebounds a game. The Pirates are bound to miss shots, but the game could turn in their favor if they can rebound the basketball and create second-chance opportunities. Look out for Jared Rhoden, who has 10 offensive boards so far this season and has a knack for finding the caroms.Â
Â
2. The Three-Pointer Will Be Critical
We're not sure if it's because of Oregon's defense or because of its opponents, but the Ducks are currently holding teams to 20.5 percent shooting from three-point distance in five games this season. It will be critical for Myles Powell to make a couple of threes and space the floor for his teammates. On the flip side, Oregon's Anthony Mathis is seeing the net so incredibly well through five games; he has made 20 triples on just 31 attempts, an eye-popping 64.5 shooting percentage! Someone's going to have to blanket Mathis on the perimeter.Â

3. Channel the Wooden Legacy
Remember last year when the Pirates tipped off late at night? Well it worked last year, let's see if it'll work again this season. The Hall went 8-1 last year when tip-off was later than 8:30 p.m., Eastern.
