
Pirates Set to Play the Yale Intercollegiate

NEW HAVEN, CONN. - The Seton Hall women' golf team will return to the links on Friday, October 5 for the first of three rounds of golf at the 2018 Yale Women's Intercollegiate.

Designed by champion golfer and co-founder of the USGA Charles Blair Macdonald, the par-71, 6,008-yard Yale Golf Course is an exemplar of the early American golf course and has consistently been voted the number one college golf course in America.

The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Yale, the field is comprised of 16 other teams including: Albany, Boston College, Boston University, Brown, Hartford, Harvard, Hofstra, LIU-Brooklyn, Navy, Pennsylvania, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Stirling and Wagner. A pair of other BIG EAST schools, Butler and St. John's, are also a part of the large field.

Last Time Out:
Junior Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain) fired a 1-under-par, 71, in Sunday's final round to lead the Pirates to a sixth place finish at the Princeton Invitational last week.

At one point, Ronchel Salas had 11 straight pars, and capped her fantastic final round with birdies on two of her final three holes. For the tournament, she tied for sixth place among all individual golfers with a 2-over-par, 75-71-146. Ronchel Salas ended the event five strokes behind the individual champion, Yale's Ami Giachandani.

As a team, Seton Hall tied Penn State for the lowest second round in the field, a 6-over-par, 294. The effort allowed the Pirates to jump one spot in the standings to sixth place, finishing with a 25-over-par, 307-294-601. Despite the sixth place finish, The Hall finished just two strokes out of third place. Penn State won the team title at 12-over-par. Fellow BIG EAST competitor, Georgetown, placed second at 20-over-par.

Last Time at Yale:
Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) fired an even-par, 71, in the second round to lead the Pirates to a sixth place finish at the rain-shortened Yale Invitational last year. After an uncharacteristically high first round score, Sager was brilliant on Saturday.  She was 2-over-par through her first 13 holes, but finished her round with three pars and birdies on holes No. 16 and No. 17. For the tournament, Sager tied for 20th place with an 8-over-par, 79-71-150.

Collectively, the Pirates improved six strokes on Saturday, finishing with a 12-over-par, 296. The Hall's second round effort allowed it to improve three spots in the final standings to sixth place. For the tournament, Seton Hall recorded a 30-over-par, 302-296-598. Stirling won the team title by 10 strokes at 12-over-par.

The Hall's top performer for the tournament was Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.). The sophomore turned in a second straight impressive round on Saturday, and used a strong finish to shoot up the individual scoreboard. Staudt was 6-over-par through 13 holes, but parred holes No. 15 and No. 18, birdied holes No. 14 and No. 16, and recorded an eagle on the par-4, 17th hole. She was 4-under-par through her final five holes alone. For the day, she shot a 2-over-par, 73. For the tournament, she tied for 14th place with a 6-over-par, 75-73-148.Â

The field will play one round each day for three days. For Friday's first round, Seton Hall will be paired with golfers from Navy and Pennsylvania, and will tee off of the first hole with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m. Â
