Pirates Battle to 1-1 Draw at Fordham
8/31/2017 10:35:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NEW YORK – The Seton Hall women's soccer team got on the board in the sixth minute with a strike from senior Lauren Hall (Bridgewater, N.J.), but ultimately fought to a 1-1 draw in non-conference action at Fordham Thursday night.
Hall broke loose thanks to precise ball from sophomore Marissa Aniolowski (Enfield, Conn.), then ripped a shot past the Fordham keeper from 18 yards out.
The Pirates (0-2-1) had an excellent opportunity with 14 minutes to go in regulation when they were awarded a free kick roughly 20 yards out to the right of the goal. However, the Rams (2-1-1) were able to prevent The Hall from getting a clean look off the ensuing cross.
With 8:55 remaining in regulation, the Rams had perhaps their cleanest look of the game following a cross from the right side which found a wide open player in front. Junior goalkeeper Anna MacLean (Thunder Bay, Ontario), however, was perfectly positioned and made a clutch diving save going from her left to right.
Turning Point
Seton Hall carried a 1-0 lead at the half and had some momentum heading into the final 45 minutes. However, Fordham's Amanda Miller broke loose down the right side, pulled it back to her left foot, and fired an unstoppable shot into the upper left side of the goal just 1:38 into the second half.
Following the equalizer, the match was a virtual stalemate. For the ensuing 30 minutes neither team attempted a shot, and they combined for seven more shots over the final 64 minutes.
