DADE CITY, FLA. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will open the 2017 spring season with the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play event, February 13-14, at Lake Jovita Golf Course.
Â
Tournament Details:
EARL YESTINGSMEIER MATCH PLAY
Host:Â Ball State University
Location:Â Dade City, Florida
Course:Â Lake Jovita Country Club (South Course)
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 7,153 yards
Dates:Â February 13-14, 2017
Â
The Course:
The Lake Jovita 220-acre South course, was designed by US Open Champion Tom Lehman and golf course architect Kurt Sandness. The strategy behind this course was simple: to take full advantage of the uniquely hilly terrain and create a golf course that is professional tour quality in every sense.
Â
In fact, the Par 5-11th hole features a 94-foot drop from tee to green – the largest natural elevation change of any course in the state of Florida. The generous fairways, velvet like greens, and immaculate course conditions provide players of all skill levels with an enjoyable and challenging day of golf.
Â
The Format:
The two-day event will consist of 54 holes of match play competition. Teams are seeded 1 through 8 based upon Golfstat rankings and then placed into a bracket. All teams are guaranteed three matches with losing teams from the first and second rounds continuing to compete in a consolation bracket. Each team match will consist of six individual matches. Lineup order for each team is based upon individual player GolfWeek rankings, with the top-rated player in the No. 1 position and so on.
Â
The Field:
Top-seeded Eastern Michigan will face #8 Miami (Ohio) in round one, while #4 Seton Hall will take on #5 Toledo. The winners will face each other in round two, also on Monday. On the other side of the bracket #2 Notre Dame will face #7 DePaul, while #3 Ball State plays #6 Ohio University.
Â
The Lineup vs. Toledo:
Seton Hall began the 2015 spring season at this match play event. The Pirates dropped their opening round match to Ball State, 4-to-2, with victories coming from Lloyd Jefferson Go (Guadalupe Cebu City, Philippines) and graduate J.T. Harper. The Pirates bounced back against their second opponent, defeating Florida Atlantic in a 3-3 tie-breaker. Go won again as did Kevin O'Brien (Wexford, Pa.) and graduate Ryan Snouffer.Â
Â
The event was shortened to only two round due to rain, and therefore the Pirates tied for fifth overall with a 1-1 record.
Â
Tee Times:
The field will start with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start on Monday morning.
