South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's soccer team is partnering once again on University Weekend with the College of Education to conduct a dedicated fundraiser to support the Mary Jennings Memorial Scholarship. During Sunday's BIG EAST Conference match against Providence at 1 p.m., donations will be accepted at Owen T. Carroll Field, while donations are also currently being accepted online.
Mary Jennings was a Seton Hall women's soccer player who would have graduated in 2007 with a degree in secondary education and history. In 2006, Jennings, who was just 21 years old, lost her battle with cancer.
The scholarship that lives on in her name is annually bestowed to a Seton Hall University student who "represents the team spirit and passion for education Mary Jennings exhibited." Please join Seton Hall Athletics in honoring Mary's memory and help support the Mary Jennings Memorial Scholarship by making a donation today.
"Mary was a very special person and left lasting impressions on all those she encountered," said Seton Hall women's soccer alumna, current associate director of academic support services Amanda DiDonato. "She was a wonderful friend and teammate, and our Seton Hall soccer family from our playing days will always celebrate her memory."
DiDonato was Mary's teammate for three years, beginning in 2003.
The Pirates will be wearing special green jerseys on Sunday in support of liver cancer awareness. The match will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via FOX Sports GO. The first 50 fans in attendance at Owen T. Carroll Field will receive a free hot dog and soda.
