Pirates Outlasted at UConn

STORRS, Conn. – Four Pirates won their respective event, but the Seton Hall men's swimming and diving squad dropped a hard-fought battle to former BIG EAST foe UConn, 181-119, at Wolff-Zackin Natatorium on Sunday.
The Hall dominated in butterfly events, as the top three finishers in the 200-yard butterfly were Pirates, while three of the top four in the 100 fly came from Seton Hall.
Sophomore Kyle Nash (Katy, Texas) (1:54.07) came out on top in the 200-yard butterfly with classmate Ivan Michalovic (Glen Mills, Pa.) and junior Matt Zebrowski (Sayreville, NJ) finishing in second (1:54.71) and third (1:55.29). Nash and Zebrowski continued a solid day in the pool by finishing in the top four in the 100 fly while freshman Connor Phillips (50.79) swam to a first place finish.
The 200 freestyle event belonged to a familiar face, as reigning BIG EAST champion Noah Yanchulis (Arnold, Md.) won the race with a time of 1:40.87.
Also highlighting the day for The Hall's was freshman Tre Fissella (Lancaster, Pa.), who continued a standout rookie campaign with a first-place finish in the 200 IM (1:53.50). He also who took third (58.28) in the 100 breaststroke. The runner-up spot belonged to fellow rookie Joshua Tosoni, who finished with a time of 57.90. The Andover, Md. product also took second in the 200 breast (2:08.45).
In relays, while the Pirates did not come out on top, they did put together some solid outputs. The Hall took second and third in the 200-yard medley while putting out the same results in the 400-yard freestyle.
The Pirates will prepare for their final tune-up before next month's BIG EAST Championships by participating in the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m.
