Tosoni Impresses in Setback at Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Freshman Joshua Tosoni (Arnold, Md.) won the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke on Friday evening, but the Seton Hall men's swimming & diving team was edged, 154-142, in a resilient effort at Rider in a non-conference dual meet at the Maurer Center.

Tosoni's victories in the 100 (58.56) and 200 (2:07.48) were two of six individual wins for the Pirates. His time in the 200 was just 0.07 off the pool record.

Lior Grubert (Yehud-Monosson, Israel) won the 1000 freestyle in 9:44.82, while sophomore Ivan Michalovic (Glen Mills, Pa.) (9:47.89) and junior Cody Wimmer (Macungie, Pa.) (9:51.04) finished in the two and three spots.

Michalovic also won the 200 butterfly in 1:55.15 and Vadim Jacobson (Arnold, Md.) took the top spot in the 500 free after touching in 4:42.08. Freshman Tre Fissella (Lancaster, Pa.) (1:55.14) won the 200 individual medley.

The 400 free relay team consisting of junior Noah Yanchulis (Arnold, Md.), freshman Tyler Kauth (Wall, N.J.), freshman Connor Phillips (Cape Town, South Africa) and Jacobson finished second, but recorded an impressive time of 3:07.67.

Rider took the top spot in each relay race to secure its 17th-straight dual meet victory.

Up next, The Hall returns home on Saturday, Jan. 21 for Senior Day and a 1 p.m. dual meet with visiting Marist. The team will then take square off with UConn the following day at 1 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
