Pirates Fall To Monmouth In Final Seconds
9/4/2016 7:19:00 PM | Women's Soccer
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Despite a heroic effort in goal from Anna MacLean the Seton Hall women's soccer team (2-3-0) fell in the final seconds to Monmouth (2-2-1) by a score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. The contest concluded a three-game homestand at Owen T. Carroll Field for The Hall.
MacLean (Thunder Bay, Ontario) made a season-high seven saves in the contest, keeping an aggressive Monmouth attack off the board until the 89:55 mark of regulation. The sophomore also stopped a penalty kick attempt in the 14th minute, sprawling full-extension to her right to make the save.
The Hall nearly broke a scoreless deadlock in the 74th minute when Lauren Dao (Collegeville, Pa.) played a perfect chip to Frankie Maier (Oradell, N.J.) in the box, but the senior's first touch attempt skipped wide of the cage. MacLean came up big again to deny a point-blank attempt from Monmouth in the 81st minute after a series of corner kicks.
Turning Point
In the final moments of regulation, Monmouth floated a long ball into the box that led to several players from both sides scrambling for possession. The ball finally rolled to the feet of MU's Alexis McTammey, who fired a hard shot from the right side of the area into the bottom left corner of the net with only five ticks remaining on the clock.
