STORRS, CONN. - Freshman Zohar Suslovich (Holon, Israel) recorded a victory in the 100-breaststoke and the Seton Hall men's swimming & diving team registered eight more second-place finishes but the Pirates fell at Connecticut on Saturday afternoon, 166.5-126.5.
ÂThe loss was just the second for The Hall (9-2) this season and came less than 24 hours after SHU moved past Marist in their final home appearance of 2014-15.
ÂSuslovich edged the Huskies' Wyatt Boliek (59.93) at the finish of the 100-breast, recording a winning time of 59.53. The standout freshman, who has now recorded 12 victories, was also just .02 seconds off the pace in the 200-back; reaching the wall just behind Sawyer Franz who claimed the top spot in 1:52.81.
ÂThe event was one of several in which the Pirates came within fractions of a second of first-place points. Fellow newcomer Noah Yanchulis (Arnold, Md.) took a lead into the final leg of the 200-fly but clocked in just .1 seconds behind Ryan Walsh of UConn (1:55.38).
ÂHis 400-IM effort of 4:13.00 was also enough for a top-two finish, the last of three which he was a part of on the day.
ÂYanchulis and Suslovich were also one half of a 400-medley relay squad that featured Keith Carlino (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Matt Zebrowski (Sayreville, N.J.) that came in just one second off the winning pace - combining to post a 3:29.58 mark.
ÂTim Bosse (New Windsor, N.Y.) added third-place points by reaching the wall in 4:49.20Â and went on to pace The Hall with a third-place time of 55.11 in 100-back competition.
ÂSenior Zach DeLillo (Sinking Spring, Pa.) led The Hall and was also within one second of occupying first in the 100-fly, completing the distance in 52.87. Walsh won the event in 51.90 for the hosts while Carlino added a third-place effort of 53.39.
ÂThe duo of Carlino and DeLillo also headlined SHU's showing in the 50-free as Carlino ranked third (22.32), .03 seconds ahead of his teammate.
ÂTo close the meet, the two joined Bosse and James Logan (Wallingford, Pa.) on the Pirates' top 200-free relay squad which claimed second in 1:27.67, finishing less than two seconds outside of first-place.
ÂIn the 1,650-free race, Seton Hall freshman Cody Wimmer (Macungie, Pa.) (16:37.02) completed the mile less than eight seconds behind Connecticut's Michael Lennon (16:29.06) who owns the third-fastest time in the event among all American Conference swimmers this season.
ÂA pair of freshmen contributed three more third-place finishes between them as Jason Tan (Bridgewater, N.J.) was The Hall's top performer in both the 100 (48.75) and 200-yard freestyle (1:47.38) events while Sean Sali (Bridgewater, N.J.) delivered the third-fastest 200-breast mark (2:16.00).
ÂOne regular season competition remains on the schedule for Seton Hall as the Pirates will head to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bucknell Invitational next Saturday, January 31 in their final competitive appearance prior to the conference meet.
ÂStart-time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
