Collectively, Seton Hall shot a 22-over-par, 306, in round one. However, the Pirates are just nine strokes off the team lead with two rounds still to play. BIG EAST rival Xavier leads the 17-team field after a first-round, 297.
Zabrosky is only one stroke off the individual lead. She trails Xavier's Shane Crutchfield and Yale's Sara Garmezy, who each shot a 1-under-par, 70.
"Overall, I'm pleased with the effort today," said head coach Sara Doell. "We have a lot of opportunity to move up over the next two days."
Seniors Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) and Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) are tied for 25th place after they both shot a 6-over-par, 77.
McKenzie Cutter (Waldorf, Md.) is tied for 56th after a 10-over-par, 81. Freshman Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) is just one stroke behind Cutter following an 11-over-par, 82.
Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) and Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) also made the trip to New Haven and are competing as individuals. Tenhundfeld is tied for 34th place following a 7-over-par, 78, while Fouse shot an 18-over-par, 89.
Designed by champion golfer and co-founder of the USGA Charles Blair Macdonald, the par-71, 6,044-yard Yale Golf Course is an exemplar of the early American golf course and has consistently been voted the number one college golf course in America.
In addition to Seton Hall, the field this weekend features two Yale teams and 14 other teams, including Albany, Boston College, Boston University, Brown, Central Connecticut State, Dartmouth, Harvard, LIU-Brooklyn, Pennsylvania, Quinnipiac, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, West Florida and Xavier.
The teams will play 18 holes each day for three days starting Friday. Complete results of each day's events will be available at SHUpirates.com.
