NEW YORK, N.Y. - A trio of Seton Hall women's golfers were named to the All-BIG EAST Team on Friday. Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.), Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) and Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) all earned placement on the 11-golfer team for the first time.
The trio gives Seton Hall five All-BIG EAST performers in program history. Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) was named to the team in 2012, while Christina Cantu earned the recognition last spring.
"They have worked so incredibly hard to get their game to this level," said BIG EAST Coach of the Year Sara Doell. "All three were significant contributors to us winning our first conference championship. They're very deserving, and this recognition is a testament to their talent, maturity and determination both on the course and off."
For a second straight year, Kruse led the Pirates with the lowest scoring average for the academic year. The junior played in all 10 tournaments and notched six, top-10 finishes and four, top-five individual finishes. Most impressively, Kruse finished second at the highly competitive Cincinnati Spring Invitational with an even-par score. The even-par score is the lowest score against par for a tournament in program history. Her 4-under-par, 68, in the final round of the event broke the program record for lowest round.
McClure had a tremendous fall season, leading the Pirates with a stroke average under 76.00. She became the third golfer in program history to win an individual tournament when she shot 2-over-par to win the Rutgers Invitational. McClure tallied a team-best seven, top-10 finishes and five, top-five finishes in 2013-14. She was named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week in the fall, and most recently, tied for second at the 2014 BIG EAST Championship.
Only a sophomore, Tenhundfeld had a huge impact in Seton Hall's 2013-14 success. She tied for fourth at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic helping lead the Pirates to the team championship, and most recently, tied her teammate Erin McClure for second at the 2014 BIG EAST Championship. Tenhundfeld's 1-over-par, 73, in round two at the BIG EAST title event was the single-round low score for the Pirates during their championship run.
Kruse, McClure and Tenhundfeld will be joined by teammates Hannah Basalone and Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) at the 2014 NCAA East Regional Championship in Tallahassee, Fla., May 8-10. It will be the Pirates' first trip to the national event.
