HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women's golf team will return to the links on Monday and Tuesday with two rounds at the St. John's Invitational, at Saint Andrew's Golf Club.
The third annual St. John's Invitational will be played at the par-71, 5,801-yard Saint Andrew's Golf Club. America's oldest golf club (1888) and founding member of the USGA, Saint Andrew's is one of golf's venerated historical venues. Only 20 miles from New York City, the Membership and their guests enjoy the game in a spectacular setting and play one of the area's best-conditioned and exciting layouts -- a challenging par-71 golf course, redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 1983.
In addition to Seton Hall and St. John's, the 12-team field also includes Fairleigh Dickinson, Hartford, Hofstra, LIU-Brooklyn, Monmouth, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, Siena, St. Francis (N.Y.) and Towson.
"This will be a challenging event on a new course," said head coach Sara Doell. "At least one parent of all seven of our golfers will be present for support. We're looking forward to getting out there."
Seton Hall is coming off its third straight top-5 finish of the fall with a fourth place showing at the Yale Intercollegiate last weekend. Senior Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) and junior Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) each shot a 2-over-par, 73, in Sunday's final round.
Collectively, Seton Hall registered its second straight sub-300 round with a 13-over-par, 297, on Sunday. The Pirates finished the three-round event at 46-over-par with a 306-295-297-898, 11 strokes behind the team champion and host, Yale. Harvard finished second, six stroke ahead of the Pirates, while BIG EAST foe Xavier placed third, four strokes ahead of The Hall.
Zabrosky turned the best tournament performance of her career. The junior placed third among 89 individual golfers with a 5-over-par, 71-74-73-218. Zabrosky's third place finish is the best in her career and her +5 is four strokes lower than her previous best tournament vs. par. She finished just four strokes behind the individual champion, Yale's Elisabeth Bernabe.
This week, Doell will bring the entire team to the St. John's Invitational, with Kruse, Zabrosky, Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.), Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) and Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) representing the team and McKenzie Cutter (Waldorf, Md.) and Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) playing as individuals.
Kruse won the individual title at the 2012 event, but the St. John's Invitational has since moved to a new course.
The field will play one round on Monday and a final 18 holes on Tuesday. Complete results of each day's events will be available at SHUpirates.com.
