PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) led the Seton Hall women's golf team at 18-over-par to a seventh place team finish at the 2013 Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club.
As a team, Seton Hall uncharacteristically struggled at Princeton this weekend. Zabrosky was the lone Pirate to submit two sub-80 scores. She finished the three-round event with an 18-over-par, 82-75-77-234, to place 21st among 51 individual golfers.
After a disappointing 47-over-par first round performance, the Pirates rebounded to shoot a pair of 311's in rounds two and three. They finished 93-over par with a 335-311-311-957, 74 strokes behind the team champion, Harvard.
"This was a tournament we could have won, so obviously I'm disappointed with the finish" said head coach Sara Doell. "However, I'm very pleased with how we battled back after a difficult first round. In the past, we've shown that we have the physical talent to win any tournament we enter, but we have to work on our mental game if we're going to consistently get over the top."
Junior Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) turned in an impressive even-par second round, but faded with an 83 in round three. She finished the tournament with a 21-over-par, 82-72-83-237, to tie for 25th place overall.
Junior Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) flashed her typical excellence in round three after two uncharacteristic rounds. Seton Hall's stroke average leader from a year ago was 23-over-par with an 84-81-74-239.
Sophomore Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) saved her top performance for round three and finished at 33-over-par with an 87-84-78-249. Junior McKenzie Cutter (Waldorf, Md.) finished just three strokes behind Tenhundfeld at 36-over-par with an 87-83-82-252.
Senior Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.), competing as an individual, placed 39th overall with a 28-over-par, 81-79-84-244.
Seton Hall will return to the links on Friday, September 20 for the first of three rounds at the Yale Women's Intercollegiate.
