INDIANAPOLIS, IND – The Seton Hall men’s swimming & diving team put forth their strongest performance of the season on Thursday, posting season-best times in all four swimming events that were held on day two of the 2013 BIG EAST Championships.
The Pirates finished the day in eighth place overall with 76 points after registering their fastest times of the year in the 200-yard IM, 50-free, 500-free and 200-free relay. SHU will enter day three just three points behind seventh-place Villanova and within 10 points of Cincinnati in sixth.
Senior Ryan O'Shaughnessy (Coral Springs, Fla.) was the top individual finisher of the day for The Hall, finishing 17th in the 200-IM with a 1:52.29 mark, missing a spot in the consolation final by just .12 seconds. The effort bested his own previous team-best time of the season in the event by over one second.
Sophomore James Logan (Wallingford, Pa.) also posted a top-20 finish, narrowly missing out on a second swim in the 50-free after tying for 18th overall. Logan reached the wall in a personal-best 21.24 seconds, less than three-tenths of a second shy of advancing to the night session. Junior Joey Lacus (Wethersfield, Conn.) also clocked a season-best performance, touching in 21.62 to place 27th.
In the 500-free, senior Austin Acheson (Olathe, Kan.) added a third top-20 performance for the Pirates, ranking 19th overall with a 4:38.00 prelim time. The performance improved upon his own previous team-best time this season by over four seconds. Freshman Tim Bosse (New Windsor, N.Y.) finished within .5 seconds of Acheson’s mark, reaching in 4:38.44 (21st).
In total, the Pirates picked up 22 points on day two behind an eighth-place showing by Logan, Lacus, Bosse and O’Shaughnessy in the 200-free relay. The quartet of Pirates completed the race in 1:24.29, bettering their top mark of 2012-13 by almost two seconds. Logan’s opening leg split of 21.23 is the Pirates’ fastest 50-free time of the season.
