BETHLEHEM, PA. - Fresh off their third team victory in program history, the Seton Hall women's golf team will take on the field at the Lehigh University Invitational to conclude the fall season.
Eight teams will compete on Saucon Valley's Grace Course with Boston University, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Harvard, Navy and Princeton joining host Lehigh and the Pirates. The teams will compete on the par-72 course for two-days and 36 holes.
Saucon Valley Country Club, founded in 1920, has grown from 18 holes and a clubhouse to become one of the largest private clubs in North America. It encompasses 800 acres and consists of four courses, including the Weyhill Course, Old Course, Grace Course and Short Course. The Grace Course opened with nine holes in the fall of 1953 with the second nine opened for play in 1958. Named for Eugene Gifford Grace (Lehigh Class of 1899), longtime president and chairman of Bethlehem Steel, the Grace Course measures 7,051 yards from the championship tees and features greens nearly twice the size of those on the Old Course but without the severe contours.
The Lehigh University Invitational is the scene of Seton Hall's first individual championship. In 2011, Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) edged Brown's Stephanie Hsieh in a playoff to claim the title. Basalone shot a 3-over-par, 73-74-147, and won the event in the first hole of the playoff.
This year, Seton Hall will bring Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.), Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.), McKenzie Cutter (Waldorf, Md.), Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) and Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) to Bethlehem.
Seton Hall is coming off a 10-stroke victory at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic on Tuesday. Kruse lost in a playoff for the individual championship, but her impressive effort was good enough to spearhead the team win. Kruse's first place tie was her ninth career top-10 finish, which surpasses teammate Hannah Basalone and former teammate Christina Cantu for the most in Seton Hall history. She also now has five, top-5 finishes, which ties Basalone for the most. For the two-day event, Kruse finished with a 13-over-par, 74-83-157.
"This is a course we know well and have done well on in the past," said head coach Sara Doell. "We want to be sure we end the fall on a positive note and can use this tournament as a springboard into the offseason."
