The standard for the NGCA All-American Scholar Team ranks among the strictest in all of collegiate athletics, requiring a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (GPA).
Basalone, a rising junior English major, sports a 3.901 cumulative GPA in the classroom. She recently advanced to the round of 32 at the prestigious Women's Amateur Public Links Championship (WAPL) and has emerged as a leader for the Pirates on the course in her first two years on campus as well. This past year, the California native became the first female golfer from SHU to be named to the All-BIG EAST Team after leading the squad with four top-10 and three top-five finishes. Among a string of impressive finishes was a landmark victory, as Basalone became the first Pirate to capture an individual tournament title after emerging victorious following a playoff at the Lehigh Invitational.
Kruse earns the honor after completing her freshman year as Business Administration major with a stellar 3.904 GPA. A vital part of the team's improvement in competition, Kruse competed in all 10 events for the Pirates in 2011-12. Her efforts were highlighted by a third place individual finish, the highest finish by a freshman in the program's brief history, helping lift the Pirates to place second among eight teams at the Lehigh Invitational. As a part of the first team tournament title in SHU history, Kruse finished in sole possession of 12th place at the Siena Invitational.
The Seton Hall women's golf team wrapped up its season by finishing fourth at the BIG EAST Championship despite being in only its second year of existence. Both Basalone and Kruse carded top-25 individual finishes at the conference championship, with Basalone leading the way for the Pirates in 11th place and Kruse finishing tied for 24th.
Basalone, Kruse and the rest of the Pirates will be back in action in less than two months when the squad kicks off its fall campaign at the Lady Bison Fall Classic. Play is scheduled to take place from Sept. 8-9 at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
