Women's Golfers Excelling in Summer

On the heels of the most successful year in the young history of Seton Hall's women's golf program, several Pirates have continued their strong play this summer.
The highlight of the summer thus far was junior Hannah Basalone (Brea, Calif.) making it to the round of 32 at the 2012 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in late June. Basalone reached the round of 32 after her 2&1 upset victory of Cindy Ha in round one. She tied for 43rd place among 156 golfers with a 3-over-par, 77-70-147, over two rounds of stroke play to qualify for the match play rounds.
A pair of Seton Hall's impressive freshmen from a year ago are also having strong summer seasons.
Ali Kruse (Overland Park, Kan.) qualified for the championship flight at the Women's Western Tournament with a 76-76-152. In match play, she won her first round match, before falling in the second round. Kruse also won an Accelerated Tour event in Columbia, Mo. with a 77-77-154.
Recently, Erin McClure (Tucson, Ariz.) finished second at the 2012 AWGA Day in Peoria, Ariz. on July 15 at Quintero Golf Club. McClure birdied four holes on the back nine to finish with an even-par, 72.
Seton Hall's incoming freshman class duo is also showing signs that it's ready for BIG EAST competition.
Megan Tenhundfeld (Loveland, Ohio) has participated in three GolfWeek Junior Tour events, finishing in the top three all three times. She placed third at the Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Kentucky with a 78-73-151 and second at Clovernook Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio with a rain-shortened, 77. Tenhundfeld won the Hueston Woods Tournament in Oxford, Ohio with an impressive, 74-70-144.
Karlie Zabrosky (Erie, Pa.) captured her second straight EDWGA Stroke Play Tournament victory at Lake Shore Country Club on Saturday. Following an even-par 72 Friday, Zabrosky shot a 6-over-par, 78, for a two-day score of 150, but still managed to emerge with a seven-stroke win.
"Our golf games continue to mature and we keep adding talent to our roster," said Head Coach Sara Doell. "I'm really excited as to what the fall holds in store for this program. I think we can take the next step and compete for tournament titles every weekend."
