ORLANDO, Fla. - Playing shorthanded due to injuries, the Seton Hall tennis team came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Sacred Heart on Tuesday. The Pirates (1-9) had to forfeit No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles since they could not field a full squad.
Freshman Pui Wing Sher (Shui Wai, Hong Kong) shutout Kate Donnelly in No. 1 singles in straight sets. Senior Belfin Sunbul (Izmir, Turkey) pulled out a hard-fought three-set decision in No. 2 singles, winning the first set in a tiebreak and going to extra games in the third set. Junior Elizabeth Verow (Barnt Green, England) took down Gabby Kaldan in straight sets.
Sher and Sunbul held a 5-2 advantage in their No. 1 doubles match, but could not hang on as the Pioneers came from behind to take that match and the doubles point.
SHU will face South Dakota State on Wednesday, March 9.
