MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The Seton Hall tennis team lost to West Virginia, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates (3-10, 0-4) will travel to Pittsburgh for a 10:00 a.m. match against the Panthers to wrap up the weekend road swing.
Freshman Pui Wing Sher (Shui Wai, Hong Kong) continued her strong play, topping the Mountaineers top singles player, Melis Tanik in straight sets.
SHU almost came away with team points in the No. 2 and No. 6 singles slots, but senior Belfin Sunbul (Izmir, Turkey) and sophomore Karina Cordero (Maracay Estado Aragua, Venezuela) fell in three sets.
The Pirates' top doubles pair of Sher and freshman Rocio Portela (Demetrio Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) were narrowly edged by WVU's duo of Mary Chupa and Emily Mathis in a tiebreak.
