
Tennis Wraps Up Play at East Coast Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Seton Hall tennis team concluded play at the East Coast Invitational on Sunday. Junior Courtney Kilarski (Roseville, Calf.) was the top finisher for the Pirates on the weekend after placing fourth in the main draw of "D' singles.
Kilarski fell to Amherst's Lauren Slutsky in a battle for third place. Slutsky was the fifth-ranked player in the bracket.
Junior Karina Cordero (Maracay Estado Aragua, Venezuela) had a strong day playing in a one-on-one doubles formatted tournament. In the first round, she beat Hannah Hoerner from Bowdoin, 5-3, before taking out Kathleen Larkin from Lehigh, 4-2. In the quarterfinals, Cordero bested Army's Larraine Saavedra, 4-1. Unfortunately, she was knocked off by Irina Dementyeva of FDU, 4-1, in the semi's to end her day.
In the consolation rounds, freshman Pui Wing Sher (Shui Wai, Hong Kong) dropped her match to St. John's Joanna Zwirbuilisj, 8-2. Junior Elizabeth Verow (Barnt Green, England) lost a hard-fought match to Salome Mkervalidze from Stony Brook, 9-8 (5).
SHU is back in action in two weeks when they travel to Flushing, N.Y. for the National Tennis Center Tournament.
