SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall Tennis lost their third straight game in the BIG EAST. The record for the spring season is 5-7.
Senior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany), stepped up to win in No. 1 singles spot. Liebschner defeated her opponent Kelley LoRusso in three sets 6-4, 0-6, 6-4. LoRusso put up a hard fought fight; fortunately Liebschner came out on top. This is Liebschner's first win in the BIG EAST conference.
In No. 3 singles, junior Belfin Sunbul (Izmir, Turkey) played a strong match against Emily Herb winning 6-1, 6-4. Sunbul improves her record to 5-5 for the spring season. Sophomore Michelle Weerasinghe (Edina, Minn.) was successful in No. 6 singles, defeating Katie Moritz 5-7, 6-3, 10-6.
In doubles competition, the Pirates continue to struggle. The Pirates lost all three matches, losing a decisive doubles point that could have changed the outcome of the game.
The Pirates will play Syracuse at home on Saturday, March 3rd in hopes to get their first win in the BIG EAST conference.
