Tennis Tops Providence, 6-1

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall tennis team ends its regular season with a 6-1 victory over Providence on Saturday. It was a team victory for the Pirates, with all three seniors contending.

For her last singles match of the regular season, senior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany) went out with a bang. Liebschner defeated her opponent Marisela Aviles in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(5). Liebschner, who is the senior captain, ends her season 5-4 in the BIG EAST and 10-7 in No.1 singles.   

In No. 2 singles, sophomore Elizabeth Verow (Barnt Green, England) picked up her first win in the BIG EAST Conference. Verow overpowered her opponent, Ayushi Sinha, in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore Michelle Weerasinghe (Edina, Minn.) was victorious in her match against Melissa Ferry (6-1, 7-6(2). Weerasinghe ends the season with a 11-7 overall record.

The Pirates were unable to earn the doubles point. Competing in doubles for the last time was Harvey and Chu in the No. 3 spot. Unfortunately they could not secure a point for the Pirates, losing to Cusack and Ferry 8-4.

The Pirates end the regular season 8-11 overall and 2-7 in the BIG EAST.
