
Seton Hall Tennis Downs Villanova, 4-3

PHILADELPHIA, P.A. -The Seton Hall tennis team accomplished their first BIG EAST win of the season, defeating Villanova Wildcats, 4-3, on Monday. The team is 1-6 in the BIG EAST conference and 7-10 overall.
Senior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany) struggled in her first set, however she persevered to come back and win against Carla Erskine (3-6, 6-0, 6-4). Liebschner improves her record in the BIG EAST to 3-3.
In No. 3 singles, junior Belfin Sunbul (Izmir, Turkey) outplayed her opponent Allison Solberg in three sets. Although Sunbul struggled in her second set, she worked hard to defeat her opponent 6-0, 5-7, 6-0. Freshman Karina Cordero (Maracay Estado Aragua, Venezuela) fought hard on the court against Alexandra Harding. Unfortunately she came up short losing 6-0, 5-7, 6-0.
In No. 6 singles, sophomore Michelle Weerasinghe (Edina, Minn.) clinched a win against her opponent Wesleigh Donadio, beating her in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Weerasinghe improves her record to 10-6 for the spring season.
In doubles competition the Pirates swept their opponents. The success in the Pirate's double play helped secure their victory. Liebschner and Sunbul were among the pairs that dominated on the court, beating their opponents, Erskine and Solberg, 8-3.
The Pirates will look for their third straight win on Friday, April 16th when they play Georgetown at home.
