
Seton Hall Tennis Shuts Down St. Joseph's, 7-0

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -The Seton Hall tennis team powered past St. Joseph's, 7-0, on Sunday. With the win the Pirates improve to 6-10 for the spring season.
The Pirates took an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. Kilarski and Verow topped Esposito and Walsh, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. In No. 3 doubles, Weerasinghe and Cordero cruised by their opponents, Glick and Malafronte 8-1.
Senior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany) had a winning weekend in No.1 singles, defeating Jennifer Kedzierski (6-2, 6-3). Liebschner had a straight set win over Kedzierski, making her overall record in singles for the spring season, 8-6.
In No. 2 singles, sophomore Elizabeth Verow (Barnt Green, England topped Maggie Mullaney in three sets. Verow was ahead winning her first set 6-4, but struggled in her second set losing 5-7. Fortunately, she came back to win the third set, and the point for the Pirates (6-4, 5-7, 11-9).
Sophomore Michelle Weerasinghe (Edina, Minn.) stepped up to No.5 singles spot, after Kilarski was unable to continue in the competition due to injury. Weerasinghe played excellent against her opponent, Melissa Glick, shutting her out in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Weerasinghe improves her record to 9-6 for the spring season. In No.6 singles, junior Slavina Kaplanska (Sofia, Bulgaria) dominated against Erin Malafronte winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
The Pirates will take on Villanova on Monday, April 13th when they travel to Philadelphia, P.A.
