
Tennis Struggles on Day Two of USTA Invitational

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Seton Hall tennis team continued competition at the USTA Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday. The Pirates will take on Fairleigh Dickinson on October 19.
Freshman Pui Wing Sher (Shui Wai, Hong Kong) lost in the consolation round of "B" singles to Julia Prantl from FDU in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 10-5. Sher was not at full strength in the contest as she withdrew due to injury in her last scheduled match of the day.
In "C" singles, freshman Rocio Portela (Demetrio Baja Vega, Puerto Rico) dropped her quarterfinal match to Maxine Thomas, 6-1, 6-1. Portela later fell to #3 seed Kim Szokol in a consolation match, 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore Elizabeth Verow's (Barnt Green, England) fell in the consolations of "D" singles to Jamila Paul from Army, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Her classmate, Courtney Kilarski (Roseville, Calif.), played in "E" singles and fell in her consolation match of to #2 seed Maryana Milchutsky 6-0, 6-3.
Sher and Portela teamed up in doubles play earlier in the day for the semifinals of "C" doubles but were downed by Danosi and Reichel, 8-4.
Sophomore Karina Cordero (Maracay Estado Aragua, Venezuela) defeated Jenny Yonkus, 6-3, 6-2, in "E" consolations. Cordero and Verow also won their consolation "D" doubles match over Outarra and Pfeiffer, 8-5.
