Tennis Comes Up Short Against UConn, 5-2

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Seton Hall tennis team dropped its third straight match after a 5-2 defeat to Connecticut on Friday. The Pirates fall to 2-8 overall and 2-7 in the BIG EAST.

Seton Hall’s top two singles players, sophomore Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany) and senior Nadezhda Shein (Tallinn, Estonia), each picked up victories to put the Pirates in good position.  Liebschner cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kelley LoRusso, while Shein earned a straight set victory against Emily Herb (6-3, 6-3).

Despite losing the No. 3 singles match, senior Amanda El-Tobgy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won her first set in a tie-break, 7-6 (4), but fell in the deciding two frames.

Liebschner and Shein also picked up their second straight doubles win in a tie-break (8-7 (3)), but the Huskies were victorious in the other two matches and took the double’s point.

The Pirates return to action on Saturday, March 29, against Pittsburgh at the Westfield Racket Club.
