Tennis Drops 4-3 Decision to Fordham

WESTFIELD, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team was edged by Fordham, 4-3, on Saturday night. The Pirates were able to split the singles portion of the dual match, 3-3, but lost all three doubles contests to the Rams.

 

Seton Hall dropped the No. 1 and 2 singles matches, but junior Amanda El-Tobgy (Pittsburgh, Pa.)  and sophomore Nathalie Ranger (Oakville, Ontario) picked up straight set wins.

 

Junior Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) bounced back after losing the first set, 2-6, to win the second, 6-4, against Ellenoira Featherston. In the tiebreak set, Viola prevailed 10-5 to earn the victory in the No. 3 position.

Freshman Slavina Kaplonska (Sofia, Bulgaria) played against Elizabeth Stall in No. 5 singles, in what turned out to be the deciding match. Kaplonska blanked Stall, 6-0, in the first set, but fell, 4-6, in the second. Kaplonska was close to sealing the win in the tiebreak after going ahead 8-5, but Stall rallied to score the next five to finish the victory.

The Pirates open up BIG EAST play on February 16 at Syracuse. The match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
