PHILADELPHIA, P.A. - This weekend two of Seton Hall’s tennis elite will compete in the Wilson ITA Regionals. The matches are being held at the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia.
Today in the first day of competition the singles and doubles matches began. Seton Hall’s junior Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany) and freshman Elizabeth Verow (Barnt Green, England) were the two team members to represent Seton Hall at the ITA Regional Championship. Liebschner and Verow were up against UPenn’s fourth seeded team of Alexa Ely and Ekaterina Kosminskaya. The Pirates fell to UPenn ending at 8-6. Coach Greg Wyzykowski was very pleased with the match saying, “Despite the loss it was a very good match against a fourth seeded team, the girls played well and it was almost a big upset.”
Seton Hall is out of the doubles competition, however, Liebschner will continue in today’s competition for the Pirates in a singles match against MorganState’s Walaa Elsir.
The ITA Regional Championships consist of over 50 schools from the East Coast including Big East rivals, Pittsburgh, St. John’s, Rutgers, Georgetown and Villanova. Matches will continue today and run through Tuesday, October 28th.
