
Tennis Begins Fall Season at Eastern Intercollegiate Championships

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team kicked off fall play at the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships on Sept. 14. The Pirates had three individuals and two doubles pairs compete at the event, hosted by Army.
In the No. 1 singles bracket, freshman Denise Liebschner defeated Army's Brooke Jones 7-6 (5); 7-5 in the first round. Liebschner fell in the second round to Pittsburgh's Kristy Borza (6-1; 6-0).
Senior Nadja Sein (Tallinn, Estonia) played in the No. 2 singles bracket and fell to Rachel McGowen of Duquesne in straight sets (6-3; 6-4).
Senior Amanda El-Tobgy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was the No. 4 seed in the No. 3 singles bracket but lost to Rebecca Poole of Duquesne (6-2; 6-4). El-Tobgy bounced back in her consolation match, defeating Rhode Island's Amanda Barletta (8-6).
In doubles action, the No. 1 pair of sophomore Alexandra Harvey and Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) lost to Howard's Courtney Dorsey and Laura Mann (8-6), but defeated Niagara's duo of Kim Roberts and Victoria Tiso (8-2).
Sophomores Liza Chu (Panama City, Panama) and Nathalie Ranger (Oakville, Ontario) were victorious in No. 2 doubles, defeating Buffalo's Janeille Jones-Mitchell and Alex Petrova (9-7). The pair was not as successful in their second round match, falling to UConn's Ali Campiteiello and Alison Koch (8-1).
The Pirates will continue play in each of their respected consolation brackets at the Eastern Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 15.
