
Women's Tennis Tops 'Nova, 4-3, to Snap Skid

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team snapped a three match losing streak after defeating Villanova, 4-3, on Thursday. The Pirates (9-5; 6-3 BE) split the singles matches, 3-3, but took all three doubles matches to earn the extra point for the win.
In No. 6 singles action, senior Iva Gyurgina (Radomir, Bulgaria) won in dramatic fashion to clinch the match for Seton Hall. Gyurgina trailed 5-2 in the second set, but rattled of the next five games to win her match, and the contest for the Pirates.
Junior Nadja Sein (Tallinn, Estonia) won in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). Sophomore Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) swept the first set of her match, 6-0. Colleen Walter forced a tie-break in the second, but Viola prevailed.
The pair of Sein and Sylvia Jaros (Scarborough, Ontario) stayed red-hot, winning the No. 1 doubles match, 8-4. The pairs of Gyurgina and Amanda El-Tobgy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Viola and Ebru Burduroglu (Istanbul, Turkey) also picked up wins in doubles play.
The Pirates close regular season play against Cincinnati at home on Friday, Apr. 13. The match is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
