TEANECK, N.J. - The Seton Hall tennis team dropped a dual match with Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates and Knights split the singles portion of the match, 3-3, but FDU took two-of-three doubles contests to earn the extra point.
In No. 1 singles, sophomore Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany) struggled in the first set of her match with Julija Korshunova, but dominated the final two frames and took the win (3-6, 6-1, 6-2).
Seniors Nadja Shein (Tallinn, Estonia) and Amanda El-Tobgy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) also picked up wins in singles action. Shein, playing in the No. 3 slot, also lost her first set to Jessica DeCarlos, 3-6, then swept the second frame and sealed the match with a 6-4 victory in the deciding set. El-Tobgy cruised to a straight set win over Dzana Ferhatbegovic (6-2, 6-4).
Shein and El-Tobgy were linked together again, as they were paired in No. 2 doubles action. They were the only duo to earn a win, defeating Ksenia Chernyshova and DeCarlos, 8-5.
The Pirates return to action when the travel to Columbia for a dual match on Oct. 12 at 3:00 p.m.
