NORFOLK, Va. - The Seton Hall tennis team sent junior Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) and sophomore Denise Liebschner (Weinboehla, Germany) to the ITA Regional Championships this past weekend. The two competed in both the singles and doubles draw at the tournament.
Viola competed in the singles qualifying draw on Friday, and defeated Corneilia Carapcea of UMBC in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-3), but fell to Yale's Jesse Rhee in straight sets (6-1, 7-6) in the next round.
Despite the loss, Viola was randomly selected from a pool of second round losers to participate in the main draw on Sunday due to schools withdrawing from the competition. Unfortunately, she fell to Pittsburgh's Kristy Borza, 6-2, 6-3.
Liebschner won her first match against Delaware's Susan Pollack (7-5, 6-4), but was topped by the No. 18 seed Andrea Novaceanu of Buffalo (6-0, 6-1).
In doubles action, the pair lost their match to a duo from Dartmouth on Friday.
