Tennis Team Earns Four Finals Births in Consolation Rounds

In a battle of the Pirates, teammates junior Nadja Sein (Tallinn, Estonia) and junior Amanda El-Tobgy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) faced each other in the semifinal round of the second singles consolation bracket. Nadja defeated El-Tobgy, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to the finals. Sein will face another teammate on Sunday when she plays sophomore Danielle Viola (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) for the bracket championship. Viola advanced to the finals by defeating Fairleigh Dickinson’s Ksenia Chernyshova and Howard’s Laura Marin. Seton Hall seniors Veronika Gerka (Edmonton, Alberta) and Sylvia Jaros (Scarborough, Ontario) narrowly missed another all-Pirate finals round in the third singles consolation bracket. Gerka will compete for the championship on Sunday, but Jaros was knocked out in the semifinal round by Whitney Ambush of Howard. Gerka will face Stonybrook’s Erica Federgreen for the title. In the first singles consolation bracket, senior Ebru Burduroglu (Istanbul, Turkey) advanced to the finals round, which will also be played on Sunday. She will face Paola Rodolfi of Stonybrook. Sunday’s matches will conclude play for the Pirates at the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships.
