LEWISBURG, PA. – In a day that featured record-breaking and season-best times, the Seton Hall women's swimming and diving team split its two dual meets at the Bucknell Fall Invite inside Kinney Natatorium. The Hall beat Howard 155-141, but fell to Bucknell 207-89.
HOW IT HAPPENED - DIVING
On the boards, it ended up being a standout day for a pair of freshmen divers. Justine Frantz finished third on the three-meter board with a season-best scire of 222.25. Meanwhile, on the one-meter board, Alexis Mendenhall earned third on the one-meter board with a score of 220.60.
HOW IT HAPPENED - SWIMMING
With everyone watching, the Pirates kicked off the day with a bang in the 400 medley relay. While the team itself finished only second in the heat, it was Lindsay Naber's opening backstroke leg that drew all the attention. Naber, the rising sophomore talent, launched off the start with blistering pace. By the time she touched the wall at the end of the opening leg, she set a new school record time in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 54.82.
After Naber's record-breaking showing, Zeynep Aysoy dove into the pool for the 1650 freestyle. The Turkish distance swimmer reliably paced the field from start to finish, earning the win with a time of 17:29.39. Freshman Ellie Walsh came in third with a time of 17:59.17. In the 500 freestyle, Aysoy added a second-place finish with a time of 5:05.10.
After a stellar debut in the Pirates' last meet, Kali Collins continued to produce dominant showings in the 200 freestyle. The freshman won the event by nearly two seconds with a time of 1:50.88, just over a second off her personal-best mark and good for second-fastest in the conference this season. Her day was not done there, as Collins finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.94, less than a half-second of her career-best mark.
Not to be outshone, Naima Hazell once again put on a strong showing in the 50 freestyle. Despite getting the best start off the blocks, the senior was engaged in a tight race to the wall. So tight, in fact, that she finished tied for first place in the event with a time of 23.70.
In addition to her record-breaking relay split, Lindsay Naber produced another stellar weekend in the pool. The sophomore dominated the 200 backstroke, winning by nearly four seconds with a career-best time of 2:00.64. With that result, Naber sits with the fifth-fastest time in the conference and just over a half-second away from breaking another school record. She also added a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke individual event, but the time was slower than her relay split.
What's Next
The Pirates will return to the pool next on Friday, November 6, when they travel out to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to take on the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. The meet is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
