SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's soccer team has announced its full schedule for the 2025 season. The Pirates will face a challenging slate of 17 fixtures consisting of nine non-conference opponents and eight BIG EAST foes.
The Pirates' season-opening match will come against Lafayette College on Thursday, August 21. This will be the 12th meeting between the two schools and the first since Seton Hall's 6-0 win over Leopards in 1961, making it 64 years between matchups.
On Sunday, August 24, the Seton Hall-Rutgers rivalry will return to South Orange for the first time since 2009. The storied rivalry was renewed last season after a 15-year hiatus when the Pirates traveled to Piscataway and earned a 3-1 victory over the Scarlet Knights. In this 59th meeting between the two sides, The Hall will look to claim back-to-back wins for the first time since 2006-07.
The Pirates will face six teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, beginning with the team's first road trip of the season to St. Louis, M.O., on Saturday, August 30, to face Saint Louis University. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides. The Billikens have reached three of the last five NCAA Tournaments, including earning a national seed in 2021 when they lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual tournament runners-up. Last season, Saint Louis peaked at No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
Six days after clashing against Saint Louis, the Pirates will return home to play host to UPenn on Friday, September 5. The Quakers, who peaked at No. 11 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll last season, won the Ivy League regular season title on their way to the No. 6 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. This will be the first meeting between the two sides since their 2017 meeting, when the Pirates won 2-1 at Rhodes Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The 2025 slate features four additional non-conference matches, including home dates against Sacred Heart (9/11), FDU (9/14), Princeton (9/23), and Florida International (10/7). The Pirates will also travel to Lehigh (10/21).
On Friday, September 19, the Pirates open BIG EAST play at Owen T. Carroll Field against Providence. The Friars, who peaked at No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and made the NCAA Tournament, defeated The Hall in last season's BIG EAST opener 1-0. Seton Hall will also play host to reigning BIG EAST Tournament Champions Georgetown (10/3), reigning BIG EAST Regular Season Champions Akron (10/17) and UConn (11/7).
After hosting Providence to open BIG EAST play, Seton Hall will hit the road for its first BIG EAST road series of the season the following weekend when the Pirates travel to Milwaukee, W.I., on Saturday, September 27, to face off against the Marquette Golden Eagles. The two sides met in the heat of the regular season last year in a game that, after an early Seton Hall goal, showcased The Hall's stifling defense en route to a 1-0 win. The Pirates will also pay visits to Villanova (10/11), St. John's (10/25) and Creighton (11/1) in conference play.
Four teams will qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament, a change from the postseason format used over the last two seasons. The top team from each division will receive the top two seeds in the tournament, with the remaining six seeds determined by conference point total regardless of division. The BIG EAST semifinals and final will be held at Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. on Nov. 13 and 16, respectively.
