Despite Gilbert's Two HR Day, Pirates Fall to Crieghton in Eleven-Inning Affair

How It Happened
After pitching the closing innings of the prior night's loss, Kyra Kreuscher returned to the circle to open the Pirates' high stakes second game against the Blue Jays. With the pressure mounting, Kreuscher stepped up in through the first three frames, holding Creighton scoreless and only allowing three baserunners. Despite that, the Pirates' offense was stifled by the Blue Jays through the top of the fourth inning, with The Hall collecting only three baserunners. The stalemate would be broken by the Blue Jays, however, as a two-run home run put them ahead of the Pirates 2-0 by the end of the fourth inning.

After being stifled, the Pirates appeared find a wave of momentum in the sixth inning. A pair of singles by Kelsey Carr and Hannah Alexander put two runners on as Olivia Gilbert stepped to the plate. After taking a first pitch strike, Gilbert drove the ball deep over the left field wall to give an ecstatic Pirates side a 3-2 lead after the top of the second.
Unfortunately, after collecting a leadoff groundout, Carr loaded the bases with only one out in the sixth inning. While one runner scored on a sacrifice fly, the Pirates escaped the inning with the game tied, 3-3. Both sides retired in order in the seventh inning, sending the game to extra innings

The Pirates would pull themselves out front once again when, on the opening pitch of her at-bat, Gilbert sent another ball deep over the left field wall for her second three-run home run of the game. Despite Seton Hall having momentum, Crieghton fought back to tie the game once again after a three-run tenth inning that culminated in a two-out RBI single to tie the game.
After the Pirates didn't manage to add a run in the top of the eleventh, the Blue Jays attacked Carr as she began her sixth inning of work in relief. Four batters later, Crieghton scored to hand the Pirates a 7-6 loss.
