
Pirates Primed for 2025 BIG EAST Championship This Weekend

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The Seton Hall women's golf team will look for its first BIG EAST Championship since 2016 when it heads to Riverton Pointe Country Club in Hardeeville, S.C. for three rounds of golf this weekend.

The Pirates are coming off a strong showing during the 2024-25 academic year, which featured four top-3 finishes including a tournament victory at the UAlbany Invitational in the fall. All five of Seton Hall's spring events featured top-5 finishes for the Pirates.

Individually, Marta Aguilar (Casares Malaga, Spain) is enjoying one of the greatest years as a freshman in program history. The Seton Hall newcomer has already been named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week three times and has claimed the individual title of two tournaments. Aguilar enters the BIG EAST Championship with a 74.60 stroke average, which is the best for a freshman in program history and the second-best in a single-year for any class.

Seton Hall won the team BIG EAST title three consecutive years from 2014 through 2016. No Seton Hall player has ever won the individual title.

From a playability standpoint, the golf course is designed to appeal to a broad range of players. The course offers five sets of tees – stretching all the way out to over 7300 yards for low-handicappers – while also placing an emphasis on forgiveness and overall playability for high-handicappers and beginners.

The field will be limited to only the six member schools of the BIG EAST Conference. Below are the teams in order of their by their national ranking.

Sophomore Kasumi Tran (Swansea, Wales) shot an even-par, 71, on April 6 to lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to second-place finish at the 2025 Rutgers Invitational. Tran had her best round of the spring, using five birdies to fuel an even round. For the tournament, she tied for 14th place with a 15-over-par, 81-76-71-228.

The top individual golfer for Seton Hall for the weekend was freshman Marta Aguilar (Casares Malaga, Spain). The Pirates' newcomer had three birdies in route to a 2-over-par, 73, on April 6. For the tournament, she tied for fifth place among 92 individual golfers with a 12-over-par, 75-77-73-225. It's Aguilar's third-consecutive top-5 finish and her fourth of the year in nine tournaments.

As a team, The Hall moved up one spot on April 6 to finish second behind host Rutgers. The Pirates had their best round of the tournament in round three with a 13-over-par, 297. For the three-round event, Seton Hall was 59-over-par with a 309-305-297-911. Rutgers, playing on their home course, won the event going away at 29-over-par. Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, St. John's, finished tied for 10th at 102-over-par.

Renee Rane (New Delhi, India) shot a 3-over-par, 75, in the final round to help the Seton Hall women's golf team to a third-place finish at the 2024 BIG EAST Championship at Callawassie Island Golf Club.

In round three, Rane had the top Seton Hall round with a birdie and 14 pars in route to a 3-over-par, 75. For the tournament, she tied for seventh among all golfers with a 7-over-par, 72-76-75-223. Xavier's Emma Welch won the individual BIG EAST title at 3-under-par.

As a team, The Hall shot a 21-over-par, 309, in round three, but scores were up across the field. Temperatures dipped 25 degrees from play in round two and a steady wind elevated scores. The Hall entered the tournament as the fifth-ranked team, but placed third with a 42-over-par, 300-297-309-906. Xavier won its fifth-straight BIG EAST title and will represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown placed second, only two strokes behind the Musketeers.

The BIG EAST will crown a team champion, which earns an automatic berth to the 2025 NCAA Championship. The individual champion also receives an NCAA Championship invitation.Â
