LAST GAME
Sophomore Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) scored a career-high 36 points to lift the Seton Hall women's basketball team to a 76-67 victory over DePaul on Senior Night for its 20th victory of the season on Thursday.
Â
On an emotional night when four graduating seniors were honored in a pregame ceremony, The Hall had to overcome a sluggish start before assuming control in the second quarter. The Pirates used an 11-0 run to take the lead and never trailed again.
Â
Catalon finished only three points shy of Lauren Park-Lane's single-game record, going 9-for-19 from the field and a perfect 16-for-16 from the free-throw line, breaking Park-Lane's program record for most made free-throws in a single game without a miss. She also had six rebounds, three assists, three steals and drew 11 fouls.
Â
Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) collected her first career double-double with 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) had her best game of the season with a season-high 13 points, a career-high eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. Kaydan Lawson (Cleveland, Ohio) had 10 points and three rebounds.
Â
Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Musketeers:Â Seton Hall leads, 22-3
Earlier this Year:
Seton Hall 72, Xavier 47 (F) – February 8, 2025 (Walsh Gym)
Â
AGAINST XAVIER
Seton Hall and Xavier will meet for the second time this season on Sunday. The Pirates have dominated the all-time series having won 22 of the prior 25 meetings, including 12 in a row. Seton Hall is 7-2 on the road this season, while Xavier is 5-9 at home. The Pirates have won their last five games at the Cintas Center.
Â
EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST XAVIER
Sophomore Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) had a double-double and set the Seton Hall women's basketball single-game record for steals as the Pirates downed Xavier, 72-47, in Walsh Gymnasium on Feb. 8.
Â
Catalon finished with a program-record 11 steals, a record that was set by Pirates' Hall of Famer Phyllis Mangina with 10 steals against Saint Peter's on Jan. 19, 1978, and matched by Ozelina Gorham three years later. Overall, Seton Hall's 23 team steals are the highest by any BIG EAST team in conference play so far this season, and are one shy of the program team record.
Â
The Hall ran away from Xavier in the second half thanks largely to the Pirates' full-court pressure. The Musketeers committed 33 turnovers for the game, including 20 in the second half.
Â
Catalon finished with 17 points and 11 steals for the first double-double of the year for any Pirate. Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had 16 points and four rebounds. Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) finished with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Â
SCOUTING XAVIER
The Musketeers enter their second contest against Seton Hall with a 6-22 overall record and a 1-16 mark in BIG EAST play. They've already clinched the No. 11 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament and will face No. 6 DePaul in the first round on March 7. If Seton Hall defeats Xavier on Sunday, it will earn the No. 3 seed, and if Xavier upsets DePaul in the BIG EAST Tournament first round, the Pirates and Musketeers will meet for a third time this season in the quarterfinals.
Â
Xavier has lost 10 straight games and is coming off a 62-37 setback at Marquette on Thursday. Meri Kanerva leads the team with 10.5 points per game.
Â
UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action on Saturday, March 8 when it begins postseason play at the BIG EAST Tournament, presented by Jeep at Mohegan Sun Arena. With a victory over Xavier on Sunday, The Hall will earn the No. 3 seed and face either No. 11 Xavier or No. 6 DePaul in the quarterfinals at 9:30 p.m. The contest will be televised nationally on FS2. 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net will also carry the game.
