In the former pirate haven along the Gulf of Mexico, Seton Hall did damage in the opening frames. After a one-out Taylor Hill single, two-way star Kelsey Carr stepped up to the plate. After taking a first-pitch ball, she made hard contact on the very next pitch. The graduate student drove the ball down the left field line and over the fence, helping the Pirates out to a quick 2-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, Olivia Gilbert added to the Pirates lead with her own two-run home run, expanding The Hall's lead to 4-0. Hannah Alexander would add a fifth run in the fifth to give the Pirates a 5-0 lead entering the bottom of the frame.

While the offense thrived, Karissa Dupuis found herself opening the game in the circle for the first time since April 23, 2024. Dupuis pitched a clean opening to the game, allowing only two hits through the first four innings. She began to run into trouble in the fifth, surrendering three runs before being relieved by Rachael Schumann. After getting out of the fifth unscathed, Schumann would also find herself in trouble in the sixth inning. She would surrender two runs, allowing Omaha to tie the game at 5-5. Kyra Kreuscher entered the game in the immediate aftermath and found herself on the mound the remainder of the way after getting out of the inning.
From that point on, neither team was able to find the game-ending play behind the plate for multiple frames and the game entered extra innings. Seton Hall narrowly escaped the eighth inning after Andrea Perez and Caroline Hobbes combined to force an inning-ending double play on a line drive to short. The Pirates defense held strong as the offense looked to regain its footing from the early innings.
Seton Hall's best chance to go back in front came in the tenth inning. With Amber Johnson on second, Katey Brennan earned a lead-off walk to put two runners on with no outs. A sacrifice bunt from Hill put both runners in scoring position, leaving the Pirates needing only one hit to retake the lead. The next two Pirates failed to get on base, however, and The Hall went to the bottom of the tenth. At this point, with the pitching staff stressed the most it has all season, it ended up breaking. An out away from the tenth inning, a single from Omaha scored the runner on third, handing the Pirates a 6-5 loss.
