Seton Hall and LIU will meet for the 13th time in history with the Pirates having won nine of the prior 12 meetings. The Hall last met the Sharks during the 2014 season, a four-set win for the Pirates.

The Sharks are coming off a 13-19 season last year, which included a 9-5 mark in Northeast Conference play. LIU hit its stride late in the season and won four of its last five matches. The Sharks upset top-seeded Sacred Heart in the semifinals of the NEC Tournament and defeated FDU in the title game for their 13th conference title. Their season came to an end with a first-round loss to top-seeded Nebraska in the NCAA Tournament.

This season, LIU is picked to finish second in the eight-team NEC according to the conference's preseason coaches poll. Senior libero Alasha Colon returns and is the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Year, All-NEC First Team and NEC All-Tournament team. She led the NEC and was ranked 10th in NCAA Division I in digs per set (5.43) last year. LIU enters Tuesday's contest with a 1-8 record overall. Last weekend, the Sharks were swept by both Minnesota on Thursday and Auburn on Saturday as part of the Diet Coke Classic in Minneapolis. LIU hasn't won a set in its last five matches, but its competition has been fierce. In addition to two quality high-major opponents last weekend, the Sharks have also already played UCLA, Tennessee and UConn. Their lone victory came in five sets against Quinnipiac on Sept. 3.

The Hall will complete the non-conference portion of its schedule when it travels to the Bronx on Saturday for a match at Fordham. It's scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.Â
