
Pirates Fall in BIG EAST First Round at Georgetown, 2-1

WASHINGTON – Seton Hall men's soccer fell in the First Round of the 2023 BIG EAST Men's Soccer Tournament on Saturday afternoon at No. 1 seed Georgetown, 2-1.
How it Happened
The Hoyas found the back of the net early on, as a goal from Kyle Linhares in the 12th minute gave Georgetown an early 1-0 edge. The Pirates possessed in the attacking third more as the half wore on but went into halftime trailing.
Early in the second half, the Pirates were able to find the equalizer. Rikard Cederberg (Gothenburg, Sweden) got on the other end of a James Boote (Southampton, England) service into the edge of the box on a free kick. Cederberg's pass directed towards Hugo Gerbore (Moelan Sur Mer, France), who shifted to his left and sent a later inside the back post to level the score at 1-1.
In the 64th minute, Konstantin Donalies (Bremen, Germany) was issued a red card, forcing Seton Hall to play with 10 men for the remainder of the match. The Pirates were able to defend strongly while down a man, making life difficult on Georgetown's attack. The Hoyas would break through in the 86th minute on a Matthew Van Horn goal to take a 2-1 lead.

- Boote picked up the assist on the Gerbore goal to bring his total to five on the season. He capped the season by registering points in each of his final three matches.
 - Boote's final season was a sparkling one, notching a career-best six goals and 17 points.
 - Gerbore's goal was his second of the season and his first since finding the back of the net in the 4-2 win over UConn on Sept. 23.
 - Cederberg's assist was his first of the season and was his first point since his two-goal outing which also came against UConn on Sept. 23.
