SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's basketball team used a 17-2 run in the fourth quarter to rally past Georgetown, 72-62, on Wednesday in Walsh Gym for its eighth victory in the last nine games.
Â
The Pirates trailed 54-50 with 8:39 left in the game, but went on a furious run over the next 6:06 to grab a commanding 67-56 advantage with just 2:33 to go. Â Senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) had 12 of her game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter alone, including a pair of timely three-pointers.
Â
Park-Lane also had a game-high eight assists, adding to her Seton Hall career record.Â
Â
Graduate student Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) had 17 points on 8-for-13 shooting and pulled down six rebounds.
Â
THE STORY:
Seton Hall opened the game with an 8-0 run which sparked an early timeout by Georgetown. The Pirates held the Hoyas without a field goal for the first 3:40 of the game, meanwhile The Hall came out scalding from the field, connecting on 10 of their first 12 shots, including four made three-pointers. A trifecta by Shailyn Pinkney (East Hartford, Conn.) gave the Pirates a commanding 24-12 lead with 3:20 left in the first.
Â
A jumper by Cooks with 8:34 left in the second quarter gave The Hall a 31-21 advantage, but then The Hall went cold from the field. The Pirates didn't connect on another field goal for the remainder of the half, going 0-for-10. Still, The Hall's defense was good enough to give it a 35-32 lead at the break.
Â
Trailing 46-41, Georgetown closed out the third quarter with a 10-2 run, which gave them their first lead of the game and put them up, 51-48, through three quarters.
Â
Down 54-50, the Pirates scored seven unanswered, and a three-pointer by Park-Lane with 6:55 left to play gave the lead back to Seton Hall, 57-54. The Pirates kept up their defensive pressure, and extended their run to 17-2, highlighted by steals and scores by Park-Lane and Pinkney, to take a 67-56 advantage with just 2:50 to go. A 6-0 Georgetown run cut The Hall's lead to five, but Park-Lane connected on a deep three-pointer with 53 seconds left to crush the Hoyas' comeback hopes.
