
Historic Night from Jerresand Leads Pirates on Day Two

The sophomore Jerresand became the first Pirate to ever win the BIG EAST Women's 50 Free final. After breaking the school record in the prelim earlier in the day with a time of 23.50, Jerresand shattered her own record finishing with a time of 23.34 in the final to capture the BIG EAST Championship.

Freshman Natalie Heim also had an impressive showing in the 50 Free Final, swimming her best time as a Pirate at 23.64, just .01 off her personal-best.

To start the day in the 500 Free, the Pirates sent three finalists to the finals. Senior Julie Stankiewicz (Metuchen, N.J.) took fifth for The Hall with a time of 4:57.96. Freshman Amanda Zajdzinski won the consolation final with a time of 4:58.66, good enough for a top-10 time in school history while Heidi Dickson (Greenwich, N.J.) rounded out the finalist for The Hall in the 500 Free.

In the 200 IM, seniors Amelia Wootton (Bethel, Conn.) and Marianne Molloy (Toms River, N.J.) went 1-2 in the consolation final, finishing with times of 2:06.33 and 2:06.72, respectively. On the diving board, the Pirates sent both Ashley Diekemper (Severna Park, Md.) and Laura Stavila (Oakland, Calif.) to the finals for The Hall.

The Pirates closed out a solid Day Two with a strong swim in the 200 Free Relay. The relay team consisting of Heim, Stankiewicz, Wootton and Jerresand took third in the event with a time of 1:34.62.

Through a strong effort on the day, the Pirates were able to jump up to the third spot in the team scores following Day Two.
