Geneva, Ohio – The Seton Hall women's swimming and diving team will begin competition at the BIG EAST Championships starting on Wednesday. The championships are being held at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Coming off of an encouraging showing last season, the women return four swimmers from the ALL-BIG EAST Team a year ago. Helping to lead the Pirates is senior Julie Stankiewicz (Metuchen, N.J.) who is coming off a record-setting performance in the 500 Free last year. Stankiewicz set a new program record in the event with a second-place finish and time of 4:52.41.
Also returning for the Pirates with all-conference honors from a season ago are Cornelia Jerresand (Taeby, Sweden) and Taylor Patnode (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) as two of the four legs in the 200 Free Relay. Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.) rounds out last season's retuning honorees as the then-freshman earned the honor in both the 100 and 200 Fly events.
Other veteran leaders returning from a season ago such as Sarah Pilecki (Cary, N.C.), Heidi Dickson (Greenwich, N.J.) and Marianne Molloy (Toms River, N.J.) who all set new top 10 times for the Pirates last year. Seniors Lexi Kolodgie (Baltimore, Md.) and Amelia Wootton (Bethel, Conn.) were both members of the 2019 All-BIG EAST team and are poised for a strong senior showing.
Along with a solid group of returners, the Pirates showed fight to start to the long awaited 2021 season against last year's BIG EAST Champion, Villanova, with some help from some newcomers such as Natalie Heim, Sarah Frie (Waterford, Va.) and Josie McCartney (Verona, Wisc.). Senior divers Ashley Diekemper (Severna Park, Md.) and freshman Laura Stavila (Oakland, Calif.) will look to head up the diving attack for The Hall.
The Championships will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network's YouTube channel. Links to the broadcasts as well as live results can be found on the team's schedule page.
