
The Pirates Play the Georgetown Intercollegiate This Weekend

BEALLSVILLE, MD. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will return to action starting Sunday with three rounds of golf at the 2021 Georgetown Intercollegiate at The Four Streams Club, October 10-11.

The Course:
The Four Streams Club is the first signature design in the United States from the renowned Price/Smyers Golf Course Design Group. The course is inspired by some of the world's best courses and holes. Mr. Price combines his playing talents with the architectural expertise of Steve Smyers, architect of Chart Hills (England) recently named the number one inland course in the British Isles, Old Memorial and Southern Dunes (Florida) and Wolf Run (Indiana). The greens, tees and fairways feature a new type bentgrass that will ensure superb playing conditions year round. The course is set on rolling land with visual drama from many vantage points.

Four Streams is located on a 300-acre parcel located in the Agricultural Reserve in Montgomery County, Maryland. Four Streams is ranked as one of the top 10 courses in Maryland by Golf Digest and one of the "World's Top 1,000 Golf Courses" by Rolex. In addition, the course has been awarded a Top Golf Architecture Award for Outstanding Design in Maryland.

In addition to Seton Hall and host Georgetown, the field includes 10 other schools:Â Binghamton, Campbell, Delaware, Gonzaga, Howard, Loyola (Md.), Navy, Rhode Island, St. Joseph's and William & Mary.

The Format:
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

The Seton Hall Lineup:
Graduate student Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Alex Sun (Danville, Calif.) tied for fourth place among 114 individual golfers and the Pirates finished second at the Hartford Hawks Invitational on September 21.

Acevedo followed his excellent first round with a brilliant 5-under-par, 67, in round two, and was the individual leader after two rounds at 8-under-par. In round three, he was strong again, but settled with a 1-over-par, 73. For the three-round event, Acevedo tied for fourth place with a 7-under-par, 69-67-73-209. His performance is by far a career-best and his second top-5 finish.

Sun, competing as an individual, erupted for a record-tying 7-under-par, 65, in round two. He was under par again in round three, firing a 2-under-par, 70. Sun tied Acevedo for fourth place overall with a 7-under-par, 74-65-70-209, his first-ever top-5. Sun ties former Pirate greats Lloyd Jefferson Go and Linus Yip for the lowest single-round score on a par-72 course in program history.

As a team, the Pirates were consistent throughout the tournament. After shooting a 1-over-par, 289, in round two, they shaved off two strokes to shoot 1-under in round two. In round three, they were dead even with a 288. For the event, The Hall notched its second straight second-place finish with an even-par, 289-287-288-864. UCF ran away with the team title by 35 strokes. The Pirates bested the rest of the large 18-team field, however, including BIG EAST foe Connecticut, which finished at 10-over-par.

Last Time at Four Streams:
In 2019, Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) finished tied for 15th to lead the Pirates to 10th place at the Georgetown Intercollegiate. Xie had three birdies in the final round in route to a 7-over-par, 78. For the tournament, he tied for 15th place with a 4-over-par, 69-70-78-217.Â

Collectively, the Pirates shot a 27-over-par, 311, in the final round to finish 10th. Their three-round total was a 45-over-par, 291-295-311-897. Washington won the team title with an astonishing 17-under-par score. Among the rest of the field, Georgetown finished seven strokes ahead of The Hall, while both Creighton and DePaul were behind the Pirates at 54-over-par and 57-over-par respectively.
Schedule:
The field will play two continuous rounds (36 holes) beginning with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start on Monday. On Tuesday, a single final round will be played with again a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.Â
