
Kness, Win Power Pirates to Second Place Finish at UNF

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Three Pirates shot a 1-under-par, 71, in Tuesday's final round as the Seton Hall women's golf team finished second at the 2020 UNF Collegiate.

Seton Hall had the lowest round of the 16-team field on Tuesday, an even-par, 288, which helped it vault Sam Houston State to finish second. For the three-round event, the Pirates shot a 28-over-par, 300-304-288-892, improving 16 strokes on their final day. The Hall finished only four strokes behind the champion and host, North Florida. Among the talented teams Seton Hall finished ahead of included No. 67 Chattanooga, and BIG EAST foe Georgetown.

Junior Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.) improved six strokes in her final round, firing a 1-under-par, 71. For the tournament, she tied for sixth place with a 5-over-par, 73-77-71-221. Kness finished four strokes behind the individual co-champions, CSU Fullerton's Brittany Shin and Delaware's Ariane Klotz.

It's the ninth top-10 finish of Kness' career, which is fifth-most in Seton Hall history.

Senior Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain) also shaved off six strokes in round three, and used four birdies to fire her 1-under-par, 71. For the tournament, she tied for 15th place with a 9-over-par, 77-77-71-225.

Senior Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) had a team-best five birdies in her final round for a 1-under-par, 71. She finished her round with back-to-back birdies. Overall, Staudt tied for 18th place with a 10-over-par, 79-76-71-226.

Although she wasn't one of the three Pirates to shoot under par, senior Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) had a solid round with a 3-over-par, 75. She tied for eighth overall with a consistent 7-over-par, 74-74-75-223. It's Win's 17th career top-10 finish which ties former Pirate Ali Kruse for the most in Seton Hall history.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, senior Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) shot a 4-over-par, 76, in round three. For the tournament, she tied for 32nd place with a 15-over-par, 76-79-76-231.
