
The Hall Takes On Loyola Intercollegiate This Weekend

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will return to action this weekend with three rounds of golf at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Course, February 22-24.

THE COURSE:
Designed by renowned golf course architect Arthur Hills, Palm Valley Golf Club's Palms Course is one of the most popular championship Phoenix Arizona golf courses. The excellent layout provides a stiff challenge for accomplished players, yet it is flexible enough for novices to enjoy. One asset that sets Palm Valley Golf Club apart from other Phoenix Arizona golf courses is its diversity in play. The Palms Course has been rated among Arizona's best public golf courses by The Phoenix Business Journal, and the 18th hole is routinely cited by avid players as one of the best par-5s in the state.

In addition to Seton Hall and host Loyola, the large field features 17 other teams including: Air Force, Bucknell, Connecticut, Drake, Delaware, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Hartford, Loyola Marymount, Marshall, Missouri State, Murray State, Northern Illinois, South Dakota, SIU-Edwardsville, UT-Martin and Xavier.Â

LAST TIME OUT:
Junior Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) had a 3-over-par, 75, on Sunday to lead Pirates to a ninth-place finish at the 2020 UNCG/Martin Downs Collegiate to open the 2020 spring season.

Acevedo had two birdies and 12 pars in the final round, and was the top Pirate for the tournament tying for 29th place with a 2-over-par, 71-72-75-218. UNCG's Zack Swanson won the individual title with a remarkable 16-under-par, 200.

As a team, Seton Hall shot a 7-over-par, 295, in the final round on Sunday. For the three-day event, the Pirates finished ninth with a 12-over-par, 289-291-295-876. UNCG won the team title at 41-under-par. One BIG EAST competitor, Villanova, was also in the field. The Wildcats finished 14th at 52-over-par.

LAST TIME AT THE LOYOLA INVITATIONAL:
Gen Nagai fired a career-best 6-under-par, 66, in the round to lead the Pirates to a sixth-place team finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate last season. Nagai was spectacular, compiling seven birdies, 10 pars and just one bogey in route to a 6-under-par, 66, which tied three former Seton Hall golfers for the third-lowest par-72 single-round score in Pirate history. With his final round performance, he vaulted up the leader board, tying for second among 100 individual golfers with a 7-under-par, 71-72-66-209. Nagai finished just one stroke behind the individual champion, Loyola's Evan Brown.

Collectively, the Pirates saved their best round for last, improving 10 strokes in round three to settle with a 7-under-par, 281. Only Elon and UAB had better final rounds than the Pirates among the large field of 17 teams. For the tournament, The Hall finished at 1-over-par with a 293-291-281-865.   UAB blew the field away at 18-under-par, defeating second-place Elon, by 13 strokes.

Seton Hall bested its two BIG EAST Conference competitors. The Pirates edged Xavier by six strokes and downed DePaul by 25 strokes.
